A list of supplies your new friend Will need
- A large enclosure that is secure (these guys are notorious escape artists!)
- An appropriately sized hide box with a mix of damp (not wet) sphagnum moss and medium coco husk chips (this will help your tegu when it comes time to shed his skin)
- Substrate (NEVER use pine or cedar, these are toxic to reptiles, medium coco husk is commonly recommended)
- Large basking rock
- Heavy, large food and water bowls (for these you can use large plastic tubs)
- Heat lights and UVB lights
- Thermometer and hygrometer (used to measure humidity)
- Misting bottle or system
- Cleaning supplies (non-toxic)
- Surge-protected power-bar (with capability of having an automatic on/off timer preferred)
NOTE: Your tegu will not need many decorative items in the enclosure as they tend to prefer just a few hides (logs, rocks) and will not benefit from having other unneeded items. They like to have as much room to roam as possible.
